Culture in the information economy
Many academics have strongly criticised the information economy as a structure bringing about the commoditization of all humane life through a profound instrumental use of mass culture that negates and degrades the 'true' initial notion of culture. Others, view this change as one offering numerous opportunities such as the democratization of intellectual life, an empowerment of labour forces, new forms of communications and commonality. The aim of this dissertation is to assess the actual effects and implications of this paradigm shift.
